The Settlement Engagement and Transition Support Program (SETS), funded by the Department of Home Affairs, is delivered by the Resilience Consortium with the Multicultural Services Centre of Western Australia Incorporated (MSCWA) as the lead agency and members, Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Centre (Ishar) and Youth Futures.

The Settlement Engagement and Transition Support Program (SETS) was established to support migrant and refugee communities in their transition to living in Australia. SETS services provide settlement-related guidance, advocacy and support to help individuals access essential services, strengthen their independence, and build social and community connections.

SETS services are delivered in the client’s preferred language, with access to Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) if needed.

Permanent Residents:

  • Refugee & humanitarian entrants 
  • Family & partner visas stream migrants (with low English proficiency) 
  • Working & skilled visas holders (dependents only, with low English proficiency) 
  • Selected other stream visas holders (i.e. former resident and witness protection) 
  • Migrants with a Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) or part of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) visa scheme 
  • Migrants who have been in Australia for over 5 years that may need assistance because of inadequate English language proficiency etc.

Temporary Residents: 

  • Humanitarian stay visa holders
  • Visitor Visa holders (limited to certain nationals) 
  • Family & Partner visa holders (with low English proficiency) 
  • Dependents of selected temporary residents (professional skilled, provisional business or investment) with low English proficiency 
  • SETS Client Services offers advice, advocacy, and assistance to access mainstream and other relevant services, along with tailored casework to address challenges faced during the settlement process.
  • SETS Community Capacity Building promotes community-wide collaboration for settlement and integration while strengthening small or ethno-specific organisations to better support their communities. 
  • SETS Youth Program offers school holiday activities, in-school life skills workshops, and weekend Homework Hut support.

SETS Youth Program Homework Hut Program

The Homework Hut program is a free tutoring service designed to support young people aged 12 to 24 from migrant, refugee, or humanitarian backgrounds. It offers a safe, welcoming environment where students can improve their academic skills, receive mentoring, and build confidence. The program provides both one-on-one and group academic support in subjects such as English, Math, Science, Humanities, Art, etc. It is offered every Saturday during school terms at our Mirrabooka and Cannington offices.

Light refreshments are provided at the end of each school term.
